{Kagami Oni}
a r t i s t: Kaya (composed by Kalm [VELVET EDEN])
a l b u m: Hyakkiyagyou
d a t e: 2007.07.11
r a t i n g: 10/10
Lucifer: After the disbandment of Schwarz Stein, vocalist Kaya started his solo career. His songs are mainly composed by Kalm, the ingenious ex member of VELVET EDEN, on the other hand some Kaya's songs are composed by his ex bandmate Hora, and by Kei Suzuki (Kaya's friend and producer). "Kagami Oni", from Kaya's second album Hyakkiyagyou, is an amazing composition of Kalm, with lots of organs and other baroque synthworks, with a typical 4/4 EBM rhythm section. Kaya's vocal lines in this songs are simply amazing, he truly has a godly voice.

{Trick}
a r t i s t: Sadie Sads
c o m p i l a t i o n: Revenge of Wechselbalg
d a t e: 1983
r a t i n g: 8.2/10
Lucifer: From the legendary compilation album of the way more legendary underground pioneer dark label Wechselbalg, I bring to you one of the most important true Gothic/Industrial/Experimental bands in Japan, active in the original and legendary (I can't say this enough :)) underground dark/deathrock Japanese scene in the Eighties. Other bands of this important scene were AUTO-MOD (deus ex machina of the gothic scene in Japan, the leader Genet being the producer of the Tokyo Dark Castel events) G-Schmitt, Sodom, Sarasvati, Baji Work Theater, etc...

{Logos}
a r t i s t: Eve of Destiny
a l b u m: Nervous and Innocence
d a t e: 2005
r a t i n g: 8.5/10
r e q u e s t  by: candy
Lucifer: Fourth track of the first and only album of Haruhiko Ash's solo project Eve of Destiny. This track was composed and arranged by ex MALICE MIZER co-leader Közi. It's a strong and upbeat EBM piece with heavy bass and dark synthworks. It also carries Közi's trademark and odd guitar playing, as well as Haruhiko's deep and scary vocals.

{DEEP HOLE}
a r t i s t: BLAM HONEY
a l b u m: GRANDIOSE DELUSION
d a t e: 1998
r a t i n g: 8/10
r e q u e s t  by: JEI
Lucifer: BLAM HONEY, a duo active since 1995, was one of the most important bands in the underground dark/industrial scene in Japan. Lead by composer/programmer, synth player and percussionist Ryonai, and with the contribution of vocalist/guitarist/percussionist Tatsuya, BLAM HONEY released 2 albums and 2 singles mainly around 1998/99. Their style bears several similarities with Western Dark Industrial/Noise music. Like in this song, DEEP HOLE, their sound consisted in chaotic industrial beats and rhythm bases, misanthropic synths and thrashing noise guitars, plus Tatsuya's dark vocals.

{MPD Conflict}
a r t i s t: Despair
c o m p i l a t i o n: Darkest Labyrinth
d a t e: 2007.03.17
r a t i n g: 7/10
Lucifer: One of the "new" Industrial bands in Japan, Despair is signed to Brain Scan Laboratory, the industrial label lead by Mikito leader of BAAL (also in this rotation). Despair plays an hard and thrashing form of industrial with harsh male voices and insane female vocals, noise guitars, synths and drum machine completing their sound.

{KEEP COOL}
a r t i s t: KiLHi+ICE
a l b u m: KEEP COOL
d a t e: 1998
r a t i n g: 7/10
Lucifer: KiLHi+ICE is a relatively unknown band among Western fans, but they had a small fanbase in Japan. They released 3 albums (Le 7e Art, KEEP COOL, ANALOGUE FORTUNE) from 1997 to '99. They were a Darkwave band formed in 1995 playing synthpop and EBM, consisting of female vocalist TARAChan (also synth programmer) and guitar player/synth programmer UNI. ->official website. This is one of their heavier songs with a fast EBM base.

{DEEP}
a r t i s t: BAISER
s i n g l e: Kuchizuke (LAWSON Special Edition)
d a t e: 1998.10
r a t i n g: 9/10
Lucifer: BAISER was truly an ingenious band. Not only they were one of the first Visual Kei bands, establishing some key stylistic features of the genres with their early albums, but they was also one of the first bands (if not the first) to add Industrial and Dark electro elements to their Gothic rock style. Remearkable examples of this was the song Mechanixx on the album ASH (1995) and other songs like Kakusei -mezame-, HOLE, Dream Machine and the song I've uploaded for you: DEEP, originally included in the Ashes to ashes single (1995), then re-recorded around 1998 with the second line-up and included in the special edition of the Kuchizuke single.

{DEATH OF THE VIRGIN}
a r t i s t: Art Marju Duchain
a l b u m: Demon Est Deus Inversus
d a t e: 2000.03.23
r a t i n g: 9.3/10
r e q u e s t  by: mana
Lucifer: Lead by vocalist and mastermind Kai, Art Marju Duchain is one of the most obscure Gothic band ever existed in Japan. Their only album, Demon Est Deus Inversus, is as scaring ad dark as the deepest moonless night. Their songs are true Darkwave/Deathrock with a large use of horror keyboards, like organs and violins, a bouncing bass and the typical wave guitars. Kai's voice is heavily distorted and echoing, contributing to the haunting atmosphere. Side note: members of Art Marju Duchain included Peggy and ZULL, later in The Candy Spooky Theater, NENE from AMADEUS, and also Mana of MALICE MIZER's fame as support guitarist.

{BIO GENESIS}
a r t i s t: Schwarz Stein
a l b u m: New vogue children
d a t e: 2003.06.30
r a t i n g: 9.5/10
r e q u e s t  by: matthew harrison
Lucifer: Schwarz Stein, the Dark EBM duo has become very famous among Visual Kei fans (they were produced by Mana and signed to his Midi:Nette label). Their songs ranged from the soft and melodic electronic tunes accompanying Kaya's deep and velvet voice, to aggressive Harsh EBM tunes, like this one, BIO GENESIS, from their first album New vogue children. Unfortunatley they disbanded after their second album and both Hora (synth & music programming) and Kaya (vocals and lyrics writer) started a solo career (they are both covered in this rotation).

Rise! Blaze! Bleed! Awake!

{La Fin}
a r t i s t: VELVET EDEN
a l b u m: Street of ALICE
d a t e: 2000.05.10
r a t i n g: 9.1/10
r e q u e s t  by: Yuji
Lucifer: Before Schwarz Stein came VELVET EDEN, an amazing Darkwave band consisting of the drag-queen vocalist DADA (his features was the deep voice, disquieting voice and his writing skills, his lyrics were always dark and original) and the ingenious composer/synth player/programmer KALM. His songwriting skills for Darkwave songs are still unrivaled in the Japanese scene. He still write wonderful songs for ex Schwarz Stein's vocalist Kaya (as you can hear for Kagami Oni at the beginning of this rotation). Kalm left the band but Dada continued to lead VELVET EDEN recruiting other members, but since 2002 he isn't active anymore in the music scene.

{Kaikou}
a r t i s t: Közi
a l b u m: Izayoi no Tsuki
d a t e: 2002.12.13
r a t i n g: 8.9/10
Lucifer: After the disbandment of MALICE MIZER, the co-founder and co-lead guitarist Közi started his solo project. An interesting and top-musical quiality project I must say, as he demonstred with albums like Katharsis. He ranges from Gothic rock, darkwave and industrial/EBM tunes, as well as atmospheric and disquieting ambient tunes, like in the Izayoi no Tsuki album/soundtrack, released together with a book written by his girlfriend (?) Minako. At the end of the ambient album however, you can find this good EBM/dark techno tune sung by Minako herself, in the middle of the song there's also a a part spoken by Közi.

{DAMAGE -STAGE II-}
a r t i s t: Of-J
c o m p i l a t i o n: Neo Rocks
d a t e: 1994.03.30
r a t i n g: 8.8/10
Lucifer: First of all: if you have ANY picture of this band please let me know! Of-J was a VERY important Gothic/Visual band from the well-known Nagoya scene. One of the first bands to play Visual Kei. They was formed by guitarist Mamiya Kaoru, former leader of SUS4 and GARNET, two band were the famous Kiyoharu from Kuroyume took the vocal duties. release in this rotation is a demo tape. Both Kiyoharu and Kaoru were prominent personalities in the Visual Nagoya scene. Of-J played a dark and heavy form of Gothic and they were also one of the first band that started to add dark industrial influences to their music.

{Wreckage}
a r t i s t: BAAL
a l b u m: TERRITORY OF "B.A.A.L."
d a t e: 2006
r a t i n g: 7/10
Lucifer: BAAL is a relatively new band in the japanese dark scene, but the leader/composer/guitarist MIKITO was previously active under the monicker of CHRONOTRIGGER. BAAL also includes the vocalist U-tarou and the drummer Chihiro. They play an heavy form of Industrial Rock with aggressive female vocals by U-tarou. Heavy synths and noise guitar combined with industrial drumming set up their sound. They are active in the Goth japan scene playing in events like Tokyo Dark Castle and also played some concerts in Europe.

{Houkai Jokyoku}
a r t i s t: MALICE MIZER
s i n g l e: Gardenia
d a t e: 2001.05.30
r a t i n g: 9.2/10
Lucifer: I don't think I have to present MALICE MIZER to anyone. I put them here to remember to everyone they were the most original Gothic band ever appeared in Japan, and they covered a large amount of genres. They also produced good industrial and electronic tunes, that can rival in quality and originality any electro/industrial band out there. Houkai Jokyoku, composed by Mana, is a great example of this: it has harsh industrial beats, EBM base and gothic synthworks. Mana continued to compose Industrial songs also in his ne Gothic band Moi dix Mois.

{LIMBO}
a r t i s t: BUCK-TICK
a l b u m: Mona Lisa OVERDRIVE
d a t e: 2003.02.13
r a t i n g: 9/10
Lucifer: I can say that BUCK-TICK are the most important Japanese rock band ever. They have a twenty-year and more running career and a huge discography full of top-quality experimental and original albums. They can easily be placed among the world's best new wave, gothic rock and industrial rock bands. Of course they also released Techno/Industrial  songs like this, included in their 2003 album Mona Lisa OVERDRIVE.

{Vampire Ecstasy}
a r t i s t: Aural Vampire
a l b u m: Vampire Ecstasy
d a t e: 2004
r a t i n g: 7.8/10
Lucifer: Aural Vampire is a relatively new band (formed in 2004) in the Japanese Dark scene supported by events like Tokyo Dark Castle, and they are also growing popular among Western fans. release in this rotation is a demo tape. They consists of female vocalist Exo-Chika and masked synth player/programmer Raveman. Their songs range from the heavy techno/electroclash tunes like this, with the melodic voice of Exo-Chika contrasting with the heavy electronic base, to more soft Darkwave/EBM songs.

{VENOM}
a r t i s t: Hora
a l b u m: VENOM
d a t e: 2007
r a t i n g: 6.5/10
r e q u e s t  by: sora
Lucifer: Hora, ex-VELVET EDEN synth player and ex-Schwarz Stein composer and programmer started a prolific solo career after the disbandment of his previous. His solo works can be compared to the music of western EBM / Aggrotech bands (even if his songs are more often on the soft EBM side). Occasional guitars are provided by ex-VELVET EDEN R.Y.O. Hora also still composes songs for his ex bandmate Kaya.

{Philosopher}
a l b u m: Dignity of crest (2007)
{Race Wish}
c o m p i l .: Graceful Playboys (2007)
a r t i s t: HIZAKI grace project
r a t i n g: 9.7/10, 9.8/10
r e q u e s t by: Cliodne, raito
Lucifer: The new solo project from the extremely talented guitarist HIZAKI. Philosopher is the opening of his last album Dignity of crest and Race Wish is an instrumental guitar solo with neoclassical melodies and great showcase of guitar playing skills.

{Blurry Eyes}
a r t i s t: L'Arc~en~ciel
a l b u m: Tierra (1994)
r a t i n g: 8.9/10
r e q u e s t by: Amber
Lucifer: L'Arc~en~ciel were one of the first Visual Kei bands, playing soft Gothic Rock with well-written melodies and good guitar/bass parts. Unfortunately after 2 albums of good Visual Kei (DUNE and Tierra) they nearly dropped the style completely and went for a top-selling uninteresting (at least for me) pop-rock.

{AME to Muchi wo...}
a r t i s t: Dué le quartz
a l b u m: BEST ALBUM (2002)
r a t i n g: 8.8/10
r e q u e s t by: Mia
Lucifer: Dué le quartz was a promising Visual Kei band active at the end of the Nineties. They stand out from the Dark scene of the time because of their well-written songs with impredictable structures and dark and insane (but also ironic) feeling. Good guitar riffs and a wonderful solo from guitarist Miyabi.

{Nokosareta Haijin to Yomigaeru Zangaitachi no Joukei}
a r t i s t: Eliphas Levi
a l b u m: Tsumetai Atelier no Majutsushi (1999)
r a t i n g: 8.9/10
r e q u e s t by: Kozette
Lucifer: A wonderful song form the obscure Kay Party band Eliphas Levi. Wonderful baroque keyboards arrangements and a dark and disquieting atmosphere like always. Remarkable bass lines and playing. I'm not too fond of Kei's voice though.

{Destinée (LAREINE cover)}
a r t i s t: IZABEL VAROSA
c o m p i l a t i o n: Anamorphosis (UNDER CODE LAREINE TRIBUTE) (2005)
r a t i n g: 9/10
r e q u e s t by: zantuken
Lucifer: IZABEL VAROSA covering their mentors LAREINE on the Anamorphosis tribute produced by Kisaki. (Keep in mind that IZABEL VAROSA were produced by Kamijo and singed to his label Applause Records). What can I say? A perfect cover, and Hikaru can sound very similar to Kamijo, singing the vocal lines precisely. The guitar parts however are reinterpreted in a more personal way.

{SLIPPING STAR}
a r t i s t: Nookicky
a l b u m: Pinhole (2003)
r a t i n g: 8.4/10
r e q u e s t: snailfreak
Lucifer: Nookicky was FULL's project befaore the disbandment of GUNIW TOOLS he created with Dinah (ex GUNIW TOOLS) and ZULL (ex The Candy Spooky Theater, MONAURAL CURVE). This is an alternative rock tune with FULL's trademark vocals, good guitar parts and bouncing bass, giving a new-wave feel to it.

{Kakusei no Jukai}
a r t i s t: Juka (composed by HIZAKI)
a l b u m: Luxurious (2007)
r a t i n g: 10/10
r e q u e s t by: Lady Xandrix
Lucifer: The BEST song released by Juka so far. Of course this song is wonderful mainly because it was composed by HIZAKI :D. It has orchestral arrangements and a majestic and sad atmosphere. Juka's vocals are absolutely wonderful: he use his vibrato and operatic voice in the best way here. Way better than his ridiculous screaming in songs like "S".

{Mizerable}
a r t i s t: HIZAKI
a l b u m: Dance with grace (2005)
r a t i n g: 10/10
r e q u e s t by: AnonymousKorean
Lucifer: One word: perfect. Sung by SEIJI, ex-AMADEUS and Brain Hacker, and now frontman for Moi dix Mois.

{Amaoto wa Chopin no Shirabe -I LIKE CHOPIN-}
a r t i s t: Atsushi Sakurai
s i n g l e: Taiji/SMELL (2004)
r a t i n g: 8.5/10
r e q u e s t by: Emily
Lucifer: A very interesting soft song from Atsushi Sakurai of BUCK-TICK's fame solo project. This is a atmospheric tunes with electronic background, some piano chords and Atsushi's lush and deep voice.

{Chelsea (KARAOKE)}
a r t i s t: unzu
s i n g l e: unzu BEST-3 (2003)
r a t i n g: 7/10
